This policy explains how Darwin 4×4 Centre handles your personal information. Darwin 4×4 Centre is operated by The Trustee for Darwin 4×4 C&C Unit Trust trading as Darwin 4×4 Cars and Commercials (ABN 76 839 747 384), 141 Coonawarra Road, Winnellie NT 0820. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” means that business.
We follow the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What we collect
We only collect what we need to quote, sell parts, buy vehicles and work on your 4WD. Depending on how you deal with us, that can include:
- your name, phone number, email address, postcode and state
- vehicle details such as make, model, year, registration, VIN, build date, odometer reading, engine and transmission
- photos or files you upload when offering us a vehicle for wrecking
- details of the parts you’re after, the work we do and what you buy from us
- invoices, payment records and account history
- messages you send us by web chat, text, email or phone
- basic technical data from our website, such as your IP address, browser and the pages you visit
We don’t ask for sensitive information such as health or financial hardship details. Please don’t include it in forms or messages.
How we collect it
Most of it comes straight from you when you:
- call, email or visit us at the yard
- fill in our contact, part request or sell your car forms
- message us through the web chat or text service on our website
- book a service, buy parts or pay an invoice

How we use it
- to answer enquiries and give quotes
- to find and supply parts, including searching our network of wrecking yards
- to assess vehicles you offer to sell us
- to book and carry out workshop work and keep job records
- to invoice, take payment and manage your account
- to handle returns and warranty claims under our Terms of Sale and Service
- to keep our website running, secure and free of spam
- to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations
We don’t sell your personal information. We won’t send you marketing unless you’ve agreed to it, and you can opt out at any time.
Who we share it with
We share information only where it’s needed to do the job you’ve asked for, or where the law requires it:
- Other wrecking yards and parts suppliers: When we source a part, we share the vehicle and part details needed to find it.
- Freight and courier companies: Your name, address and phone number, so they can deliver your parts.
- Ezidebit (Global Payments): When you pay an invoice online, you enter your payment details on Ezidebit’s secure page. We don’t see or store your full card number.
- Podium: Runs the web chat and text messaging on our website.
- Google: Provides website analytics, the map on our site and our Google reviews.
- Website, email and IT providers: Our web host, IT support, email delivery service (SMTP2GO) and spam filtering (Akismet) handle data on our behalf.
- Government and regulators: Where the law requires it.
Information sent overseas
Some of the providers above, including Google, Podium and Akismet, may store or process information outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We use established providers that have their own privacy and security obligations.
Cookies and analytics
Our website uses cookies to work properly and to help us understand how people use it. We use Google Analytics to see which pages are visited and how people find us. This information is collected in a way that doesn’t tell us who you are.
The embedded Google map, our Google reviews and the web chat may also set their own cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. You can also opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on.
How we keep it safe
We keep paper records on site and electronic records in password-protected systems with access limited to our staff and providers who need it. Our website runs over a secure (HTTPS) connection and is protected by security monitoring.
We keep records for as long as we need them for warranty, tax and legal reasons. Tax law generally requires us to keep business records for at least five years. When we no longer need information, we delete or destroy it.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. Contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within 30 days. If we can’t give you access, we’ll explain why.
Complaints
If you think we’ve mishandled your information, contact us first and we’ll work it out. If you’re not happy with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
