Clutch Repairs & Replacement

Done in our Winnellie workshop, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

4WD clutch kit with pressure plate, clutch disc and release bearing

A clutch wears every time you take off, and towing, heavy loads and low-range work wear it faster. Most give plenty of warning before they let go.

We repair and replace clutches in manual 4WDs, utes and vans at our Winnellie workshop.

Signs your clutch is on the way out

  • Revs rise but the vehicle doesn't pick up speed, especially uphill or towing
  • The pedal bites higher than it used to
  • Grinding when selecting gears
  • Shudder or vibration when taking off
  • A soft, spongy or sticking pedal
  • A burning smell after a hill or a tow

What we do

  • Clutch kit replacement: pressure plate, clutch plate and release bearing
  • Flywheel machining or replacement
  • Master and slave cylinder repairs
  • Heavy-duty clutch upgrades for towing and touring

Standard or heavy duty?

A standard clutch suits a standard load. If you tow a caravan or boat, run a loaded canopy or spend time in low range, a heavy-duty clutch has more clamping force and copes better with heat. We'll tell you whether yours needs one.

With the gearbox already out, it's also the right time to replace a leaking rear main seal or a worn spigot bearing.

If the gearbox itself is making noise or jumping out of gear, our gearbox repairs page covers that, and we rebuild manual gearboxes in-house. See transmission and diff rebuilds.

Vehicles we work on

Manual LandCruisers, Hiluxes, Patrols, Rangers, Tritons, D-Maxes and most other manual utes and 4WDs.
