Diff Lock Installation & Repairs

Done in our Winnellie workshop, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

4WD differential with an air locker and air line fitting

An open diff sends drive to the wheel with the least grip. On a washout or a sandy creek bank, that's the wheel in the air. A diff lock ties both wheels on the axle together so they turn at the same speed and keep pulling.

We fit and repair diff locks on 4WDs at our Winnellie workshop, for touring rigs, work utes and weekend vehicles.

Types of lockers we fit

  • Air lockers, run off an onboard compressor and switched from the cab
  • Electric lockers, switched on and off from the dash
  • Automatic lockers, which lock under load without a switch

Each suits a different kind of driving. We'll talk through how you use the vehicle and recommend the one that fits.

A locker replaces the diff centre, so the best time to fit one is when the diff is already apart for other work. Air lockers need a compressor, and most owners use the same one to air their tyres back up after the sand.

Diff lock repairs

A locker that won't engage, or won't let go, needs attention before your next trip. Common faults include:

  • Air leaks in the lines, fittings or seals
  • Compressor or solenoid faults
  • Wiring and switch problems on electric lockers
  • Worn locking mechanisms

Vehicles we work on

Most popular 4WDs and utes, including LandCruisers, Patrols, Hiluxes, Rangers, Tritons and D-Maxes.

If the diff itself is noisy or leaking, sort that first. Our diff repairs and diff rebuilds pages cover that work.

Warranty

Our workmanship is covered for 3 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first. The details are in our terms of sale.
